Talk team to spread MPF messages

About 100 talks and seminars have been organized or given by a dedicated "Talk Team" formed under the External Affairs Division of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) since April this year.

Speaking at today's (July 6) Management Board meeting, Chairman of the MPFA, the Hon. Charles Lee Yeh-kwong, said: "The Talk Team, which was set up in April this year, has so far established close contacts with various trade unions, business chambers, professional associations, political parties and District Councils. We believe that this type of interactive and direct communication is very effective in disseminating our messages."

Since its establishment, the team has reached out to more than 6,300 employees and employers in different sectors.

"The MPF is set for launch this December. We will continue to utilize different channels and media in the next few months to promote and publicize the System so that employers, employees and the self-employed will fully understand their rights and obligations under the System," added Mr Lee.

The Board also endorsed at the meeting three sets of guidelines in respect of the contribution period, relevant income and payment of the compensation fund levy.

The guidelines will be distributed to the relevant regulatory bodies, Government bureaux, trade associations, professional bodies, approved trustees and scheme sponsors. They will also be uploaded on the MPFA's website for easy access by the public.

On the interface between the existing occupational retirement schemes and the MPF, the Board learnt that more than 80 per cent of the 7,109 MPF exemption applications received had been processed. It is expected that all the exemption applications will have been processed by the end of this month as planned.

The MPFA Managing Director, Mr Rafael Hui, and Executive Director (Member Protection), Dr Ernest Lee, attended today's Board meeting for the first time since they assumed their office in June.
