The MPF 360 Marketing Challenge: multi-dimension promotion of the MPF through social media
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) has been making good use of online social media for education and publicity activities to deliver Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) messages to the public, especially young people.
In the current academic year, the MPFA organized the MPF 360 Marketing Challenge tailor-made for students of tertiary institutions, encouraging them to use multi-dimensional marketing strategies to disseminate MPF messages to their peers and the general public through social media, multi-media productions and on-campus events. An award presentation ceremony was held today (28 April) to recognize the outstanding performance of the winning teams.
The participating teams were each required to complete a number of missions in the three-month competition, including setting up online social media platforms to disseminate MPF messages, seeking on- and off-campus partnerships to facilitate their marketing plans, producing short videos and organizing on-campus activities.
The champion of the competition was a team of five students from the School of Communication at Hang Seng Management College. They produced some interesting short videos carrying different MPF messages and posted them on their Facebook fan page, where they won a good number of loyal fans. The judging panel was also impressed by the creativity of the on-campus activities they organized to enable students to learn more about the MPF System and how to properly manage their MPF investment through games.
Carmen Lam, a member of the winning team, said, “Participating in the competition provided opportunities for us to gain practical experience and develop skills in social media marketing, and we also learnt a lot in the pre-competition briefing session arranged by the MPFA, in which experts in strategic market planning, digital marketing and movie production shared their valuable experience and interacted with us.”
Mrs Betty Chan, Head (External Affairs) of the MPFA, said, “Young people always have their mobile phones in hand, and online social media has become a major promotional platform. We hope this programme has helped tertiary students learn more about the MPF System and how to manage their MPF so that they can be well prepared for their future retirement life.”
The 16 participating teams organized 26 on-campus events and the Facebook fan pages they created recorded a post reach of more than 56,000 and attracted over 8,200 fans.
The purpose of the MPF System is to help the working population save for their retirement through contributions made by both employees and employers. In addition to making a continuous effort to educate scheme members on how to properly manage their MPF, the MPFA organizes a variety of education programmes catering for different age groups, including students in tertiary institutions, secondary schools, primary schools and kindergartens, as well as their parents and teachers, so that the young generation and their families can learn about the importance of properly managing their MPF.
