MPFA appoints Deputy Managing Director

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) announced the appointment of its Deputy Managing Director today (Tuesday).

 

The Hon Charles Lee Yeh-kwong, Chairman of the MPFA said, "The Chief Executive has approved the appointment of Mr Alan Wong Chi-kong as Deputy Managing Director of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority. His appointment will commence on January 10, 2000."

 

Mr Wong who is an Administrative Officer with 20 years of experience will be seconded to the MPFA at his substantive rank in the civil service and on the basis of full cost reimbursement to the Government by the MPFA. The MPFA terms of appointment in respect of the appointment of the Deputy Managing Director will therefore not apply to Mr Wong.

 

Mr Wong is presently the Commissioner of Insurance and the Registrar of Occupational Retirement Schemes and has been acting as the Managing Director of the MPFA since February 1999.

 

Mr Lee said that the recruitment exercise in respect of the Managing Director of the MPFA is still in progress and an announcement will be made later when the appointment is confirmed. Meanwhile, Mr Wong will continue to act as the Managing Director in addition to his appointment as Deputy Managing Director.

 

Following is Mr Wong's biography:

 

Aged 44, Mr Wong joined the Administrative Service of the Government in November 1979 and rose to his present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B1 in January 1998.

 

Over the years, Mr Wong has served in a range of postings in the Administrative Service. He was Deputy Secretary in Trade and Industry Branch from 1994 to 1996. He has been Commissioner of Insurance since August 1996.
