MPFA Lunar New Year Fair

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) will host a booth at the Lunar New Year Fair at Victoria Park to celebrate the forthcoming "Year of the Dragon" from February 2 to February 4, 2000.

The MPFA has commenced an extensive education and publicity campaign in January 2000 with a release of a TV API. As part of the campaign, the booth at the Fair aims at arousing public awareness of the MPF System.

"According to Chinese traditions, having worked hard for a whole year, we usually go shopping at the Lunar New Year Fair buying necessities to prepare the start of a new year," said the Hon. Charles Lee Yeh-kwong, Chairman of the MPFA.

"This reminds me that we have to save pennies bit by bit every month in order to get ourselves ready for a new start," continued Mr. Lee.

"'Make hay while the sun shines' is also the spirit of the MPF System in which Hong Kong people save while they work for better retirement protection in the future. The MPF System will come into operation by the end of this year. I would like to encourage members of the public to take the first step towards a better retirement by actively participating in the MPF System," he added.

Four guests were invited to officiate at the press conference. They were the Hon. Chan Yuen-han, the Hon. Lau Chin-shek, the Hon. Lee Kai-ming and singer Mr. Andy Lau. The guests performed Chinese calligraphy in the form of "Fai Chuns" which will be printed and distributed to the public at the MPFA's booth at the Fair.
