MPFA "Operation-All-Shops"

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) will conduct a territory-wide operation from June 29 to July 7 to bring the MPF messages to the doorsteps of more than 56,000 shops.

At today's (June 24) press conference, the MPFA Executive Director (Member Protection), Mr Ernest Lee, together with 18 MPFA ambassadors, briefed the media on details of the operation known as "Operation-All-Shops (OAS)".

"With the Legislative Council's approval, the MPF system will be fully implemented in December this year. We need to intensify our publicity efforts to help the public understand more about the System. The OAS exercise is an integral part of our 18-month long public education campaign launched since January this year.

"We aim to spread the MPF messages direct to tens of thousands of shop owners and their employees and remind them of their rights and obligations under the System," said Mr Lee.

A total of 180 MPFA ambassadors, to be divided into 18 teams, will visit nearly 60,000 shops on the Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and outlying islands during the nine-day exercise. Wearing specially designed uniforms, they will answer questions relating to MPF and distribute publicity handouts to the shop owners, including a pocket-sized "all-in-one" guidebook, a practical guide to MPF investment and an industry scheme pamphlet.

All the ambassadors are recruited from local universities. "Young people are our assets. We want to get them involved in this meaningful exercise," said Mr Lee.

A grand ceremony-cum-concert will be held at the Tamar site in Central at 12.30 pm on June 29 to kick off the whole operation. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
