Forum on Training for MPF Intermediaries
Three institutions recognized to provide core subjects of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for MPF intermediaries by the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA), namely Caritas Adult & Higher Education Service, Financial Services Development Centre of Vocational Training Council and Hong Kong Securities Institute, will begin offering the courses this month.
The MPFA today (1 February 2002) held a forum on MPF Intermediary Continuing Professional Development at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The forum attracted around 300 industry practitioners who were briefed on the CPD requirements, as well as course details by the three recognized institutions.
Ms. Hendena Yu, Chief Operating Officer (Compliance) of the MPFA said, “The MPF, being a new system, will evolve and develop in light of operational experience. It is therefore necessary for MPF intermediaries to keep abreast of the latest developments in order to carry out their duties competently and professionally. The aim of the CPD programme is to provide a systematic approach for MPF intermediaries to enhance their knowledge and skills.”
According to the CPD programme requirements, an individual MPF intermediary has to undertake a minimum of 10 hours of CPD activities in each calendar year, with at least 20 per cent to be devoted to core subject areas. Credits for core subjects can be gained by attending courses offered by the institutions recognized by the MPFA.
Also attending the forum were representatives of the three institutions, including Leo Hung, Assistant Organizer of Caritas Human Resources Investment Section, Raymond Chan, Training Officer of Financial Services Development Centre of Vocational Training Council, and Thomas Wong, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Securities Institute. They briefed the participants on the courses offered, course highlights, commencement dates and class details.
For more information on the MPF programmes offered by the three institutions, MPF intermediaries can call their hotlines or visit the respective websites. The Guide to Continuing Professional Development for MPF Intermediaries, setting out the CPD requirements, can be downloaded from the MPFA’s website.
