MPFA Blog - Moving towards a new era for the MPF System
MPFA Chairman Mrs Ayesha Macpherson Lau today (30 May) published her first blog post upon commencement of her term of office. She attributed the past achievements of the MPF System to the efforts of her four predecessors, who have brought the System to today’s scale and performance level. As Chairman of the MPFA and eMPF Platform Company Limited, she identified three major work targets, namely protecting scheme members’ interests, building the eMPF Platform, and taking forward digital transformation.
Mrs Lau said that she had taken the initiative to meet with representatives from different major labour unions since assuming office to listen to their views about the MPF System. She pledged to safeguard the interests of scheme members, in particular grassroots employees, and to make their retirement benefits a top priority. In regard to some voices urging the Authority to speed up the development of the eMPF Platform, she reiterated that the eMPF is not a simple information technology project. The development work must be carried out prudently. She said the MPFA will endeavour to overcome the challenges ahead and ensure the eMPF Platform project is implemented on schedule. Meanwhile, Mrs Lau pointed out that with the launch of the eMPF Platform, the MPF will embark on a new era and that it was important for scheme members, employers, MPF practitioners and the MPFA to expedite digital transformation. The MPFA will also ensure its operation is well equipped to cope with the changes in the operation mode and the regulatory regime when the Platform comes into full operation.
Looking forward, Mrs Lau said the MPF System will continue to improve in various aspects, including improving investment returns, further reducing fee, enhancing user satisfaction and eliminating misunderstanding. She is confident that the MPF will be treasured by the working population of Hong Kong as a reserve they can depend on upon retirement, and an important cornerstone for the stable development of Hong Kong.
