Government Names MPFA Acting Managing Director
The Government today (11 June) announced the appointment of Cheng Yan-chee, the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer and Executive Director of the MPFA, as Acting Managing Director with effect from 10 June 2021 until further notice.
MPFA Chairman Mrs Ayesha Macpherson Lau said, “The MPF System is very crucial to the retirement benefits of the Hong Kong working population. A Selection Panel chaired by the Financial Secretary is now conducting a recruitment exercise to identify a suitable candidate for the post of Managing Director to lead the MPFA to move forward and embrace challenges in the future. The acting arrangement ensures the stability and smooth operation of the organization during the transition period, so that it continues to fulfil its statutory functions, protect MPF scheme members’ interests, and press ahead with the development of the eMPF Platform.”
Mrs Lau also thanked Ms Alice Law who has started her pre-contract end leave on 10 June. She said, “Ms Law has served the MPFA for nearly 9 years and has made significant contributions to the MPFA and the MPF System. During her tenure as the Managing Director, she kick-started the eMPF Platform project which is the largest reform of the System to date. I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to her on behalf of the Management Board.”
Meanwhile, Mrs Lau welcomed the appointment of Cheng Yan-chee as Acting Managing Director, “Mr Cheng has extensive experience in public administration and is familiar with the MPF System and the operation of the MPFA. I am confident that he can lead the MPFA in its discharge of statutory functions during this interim.”
