Good MPF Employer Award 2020-21 A record high of over 1,700 organizations commended

The MPFA held the Good MPF Employer Award (GMEA) 2020-21 Presentation Ceremony today (5 October). A total of 1,740 companies and organizations received the award, the highest number since the launch of GMEA seven years ago, among which 284 were first-time participants. This reflects that employers are attaching greater importance to providing better retirement protection for their employees.

The GMEA presentation ceremony, held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre with live webcast, was officiated by Secretary for Labour and Welfare Dr Law Chi-kwong, Commissioner for Labour Mr Chris Sun Yuk-han, and MPFA Chairman Mrs Ayesha Macpherson Lau and Acting Managing Director Cheng Yan-chee.

Secretary for Labour and Welfare Dr Law Chi-kwong said in his speech that the pandemic has prevailed for more than a year. While employers are ramping up their business operations under the new normal, they have not forgotten the retirement benefits for their employees. It is encouraging to see the number of GMEA awardees reach a new high this year.

In her welcome speech, MPFA Chairman Mrs Ayesha Macpherson Lau said, “Despite the tremendous challenges to businesses resulting from the pandemic, the GMEA still received 1,761 applications this year. Among the awardees, 331 companies and organizations were recognized for seven years in a row, while 47 of them also fulfilled various criteria to receive the Best All-round MPF Employer Award.”

Mrs Lau said that the MPFA is working at full steam to build the eMPF Platform. The operation efficiency and user experience of MPF will be greatly enhanced when the Platform come into full operation in 2025 at the earliest. Since the take-up rate is critical to the success of the eMPF Platform, she called on employers to start making use of the electronic tools and services provided by their trustees to handle MPF matters to pave the way for the smooth transition to the eMPF Platform in the future.

The GMEA 2020-21 introduced two special awards – “Good MPF Employer 5 years+” and “Best All-round MPF Employer” – to commend employers that have made continuous efforts to enhance the retirement protection of their employees over the years. Other awards in place are the “e-Contribution Award” and “MPF Support Award”, which commend companies and organizations that have adopted digital services for MPF administration and that are committed to helping their employees manage their MPF respectively.

In conjunction with the ceremony, a “Post-pandemic Business Intelligence Sharing Session” was held in which insights were shared on the market outlook and business opportunities in the post-pandemic era. A GMEA awardee also shared her company’s experience in attracting and retaining talent.

The annual GMEA programme aims to promote and foster employer’s compliance with MPF legislation, encourage employers to provide better retirement benefits for their employees, and recognize employers that are exemplary in enhancing the retirement benefits of their employees. Since its inception in 2015, nearly 2,500 employers, employing a total of about 250,000 people, were recognized as Good MPF Employers.
