MPFA and MPF trustees work together to take forward MPF development and the eMPF Platform project

MPFA Chairman Mrs Ayesha Macpherson Lau led senior members of the MPFA and the eMPF Platform Company to meet with the senior management of all 13 MPF trustees in a video conference today (22 April) to exchange views on jointly taking forward MPF development and  the eMPF Platform project.

Mrs Lau emphasized that the relationship between the MPFA and MPF trustees is not simply that of regulator and regulatees, but of close-working partners. Since the inception of the MPF System 21 years ago, they have worked together with the MPFA to bring about important reforms, including the Employee Choice Arrangement, Default Investment Strategy, Tax-deductible Voluntary Contributions, and various initiatives to enhance the disclosure and transparency of MPF fund information.

She said, “The eMPF Platform project, currently the top priority of the MPFA, is also the biggest reform initiative of the MPF System to date. The Government attaches great importance to the project, and the MPFA is working full steam ahead with the eMPF Platform Company and the project contractor to develop the Platform. The success of the project counts on the full support of all the MPF trustees. We are very grateful for the extra efforts made by trustees to support the project and hope that they will continue to partner with the MPFA to complete this important project together.”

At the meeting, the MPFA also announced an arrangement to help employers get onboard the eMPF Platform. After several rounds of discussions with the industry, the MPFA decided to adopt the trustees’ suggestion of allowing employers to continue to make MPF contributions and enrol regular employees through the trustees’ existing websites or mobile apps for a transition period of three months after onboarding an MPF scheme to the eMPF Platform.  This arrangement will allow employers who have been using their trustees’ digital tools and services to make a seamless transition to the Platform after the launch of the phased onboarding in the second quarter of 2023.

Mrs Lau thanked the MPF trustees for continuing to support and partner with the MPFA to take forward all the initiatives to enhance the MPF System to provide better retirement protection for the working population.
