MPF seminar for SMEs
Enrolling staff in MPF schemes is among the many administrative arrangements that have to be dealt with by new companies. With limited resources, some small and medium enterprises (SMEs) may lack the capacity and experience to handle MPF-related matters. Some employers may unintentionally contravene the law because they are not fully aware of their responsibilities under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance (MPFSO).
In view of this, the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) has been organising MPF seminars for SME employers to familiarise them with the features of the MPF System and the up-to-date statutory requirements, as well as to remind them of some important points to note. Details of the upcoming seminar on 1 November are as follows:
MPF Seminar for SMEs
Date: 1 November 2011 (Tuesday)
Time: 3-5 pm
Venue: MPFA, 23/F Nexxus Building, 41 Connaught Road Central, Hong Kong
Medium: Cantonese
Admission: Free
Interested SME representatives should fill in the enrolment form (Chinese only), which can be downloaded from the MPFA website, and return it to the MPFA. For details of the seminar, please call 2292 1308 or 2292 1314.
The MPFA organises seminars for employers on a regular basis with a view to enhancing their knowledge of the MPF System, the MPF regulations and their statutory duties. In the past 12 months, six seminars were organised, with nearly 400 employers attending.
In accordance with the MPFSO, employers are statutorily required to enrol their employees in MPF schemes and make regular contributions. Non-compliant employers may be subject to a maximum penalty of a fine of $450,000 and four years' imprisonment.
The MPFA regularly organises seminars for employers to introduce the features of the MPF System and brief them on their statutory MPF responsibilities.
