MPFA blog - eMPF Platform commences operation this month
MPFA Chairman Mrs Ayesha Macpherson Lau published her blog post today (2 June), highlighting that the eMPF Platform (the eMPF) will begin operation on 26 June. Following the first batch of legal notices gazetted on 19 April which announced the onboarding of the first two MPF trustees to the eMPF, the Government published the second batch of legal notices in the Gazette on 24 May, confirming the onboarding dates of the third to fifth trustees (please refer to Annex for more details).
Mrs Lau encouraged employers to make use of the eMPF to make contributions and enrol new employees in MPF schemes when their MPF schemes get onboard. She also shared a few tips to employers for their smooth transition to the eMPF:
Tip 1: Prior to their onboarding to the eMPF, trustees will issue a communication pack to employers on how to register for the eMPF. The first two trustees joining the eMPF have already distributed the communication packs to employers, reminding them to start registration on 12 June and 12 July respectively. Employers should pay attention to the eMPF activation code provided by their trustees. They should use the code to set up their eMPF account through a simplified registration procedure. Once an MPF scheme joins the eMPF, the company’s key information, including existing employees’ information, payroll groups and autopay arrangements, will automatically be transferred to the eMPF from the trustee’s system.
Tip 2: If an employer continues to pay MPF contributions by cheque in the interim, the payee of the cheque will remain unchanged, but the cheque should be sent to eMPF Platform Company by post (PO Box 98929 Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office) or placed in the drop-in box at any of its three service centres (please check the eMPF website for details). Employers should not submit the cheque to a trustee’s branch or service centre.
Tip 3: Employers should switch to the e-payment methods available on the eMPF as soon as possible for convenience and efficiency, which can help avoid late payment surcharges because of delay in postal delivery.
Tip 4: If an MPF scheme has not yet joined the eMPF, all the administration and contribution arrangements will remain unchanged. Employers will not be able to handle the administration and contribution work on the eMPF until their scheme has got onboard.
Tip 5: If employers need assistance during the registration process, they can call the eMPF hotline 183 2622, send email to enquiry@support.empf.org.hk, or visit one of the eMPF service centres (a total of three) or the eMPF self-service kiosks at 12 stores under the contractor’s group for assistance. Employers can also make an appointment for the eMPF outreach service. Contact information for the eMPF can be found on the website under “Contact Us”.
Mrs Lau reminded employers and scheme members that their trustees will send out the communication packs about two or three months before the relevant schemes join the eMPF, informing them of the arrangements and the date they can start registering for the eMPF. If their trustee has not yet got onboard the eMPF, there is no need to register in advance. Regardless of how many MPF schemes employers and employees have enrolled in, they just need to register once. They will be able to access the data in all their accounts when the other schemes join the eMPF one by one. The public can visit the eMPF website for up-to-date information.
