Awards presentation for MPFA multi-media competition
College students start their life-long MPF journey once they graduate and enter the working world. To encourage them to get a deeper understanding of the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) System and MPF investment, the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) earlier launched a multi-media competition for students in tertiary institutions. An awards presentation ceremony was held today (18 April) for the winners.
The MPFA organised a multi-media competition for the first time in the 2010/11 academic year to an enthusiastic response. This was the second year the MPFA organised the competition, which was open to students of all tertiary institutions. Before producing their three-minute, multi-media videos, the participating teams attended a series of multi-media training workshops over a period of two months. The workshops were arranged by the MPFA and hosted by various renowned figures.
"The standard of this year's entries surpasses that of last year's," said Mrs Betty Chan, Head (External Affairs) of the MPFA, in her speech at the ceremony. "The videos reflect a diversity of themes and demonstrate good editing skills. The participants have expressed creativity in producing videos that deliver effective messages related to the MPF. These informative and interesting videos enable their audience to better understand the MPF System and acquire knowledge related to investment management in a light-hearted manner."
The winning video is a story about a poor, retired man who is able to go back to his past. He makes use of the opportunity to properly manage his MPF investments, thus securing a more comfortable retirement, changing his sunset years in a very positive way. The first runner-up short video, featuring a happy family of three generations, explains the concept of the compounding effect and how it helps to accumulate wealth in our MPF investments. It also encourages parents and children to learn how to manage their MPF together. The second runner-up highlights the importance of getting an early start in managing our MPF.
The winning team received a cash award and a chance to gain valuable work experience as summer interns at the MPFA this year.
The short videos, which were uploaded to the MPFA's Facebook fanpage "Rolling My Money" for voting, attracted over 2,000 votes. The team which produced the video getting the most "like" votes also received an award. To watch all the remarkable videos, members of the public can visit "Rolling My Money" on Facebook.
Mrs Chan also extended her gratitude to the experts who hosted the workshops, in which they shared tips on producing creative videos and on knowledge related to MPF investment.
The MPF System aims at helping the working population save for their retirement through contributions made by both the employees and employers. Apart from making a continuous effort to educate scheme members on how to properly manage their MPF, the MPFA organises a variety of education programmes catering for different age groups, including students in tertiary institutions, secondary schools, primary schools and kindergartens, so that the young generation and their families can learn about the importance of getting an early start in preparing for their retirement.
