MPFA ePASS wins regional IT award
The electronic Portability Automation Services System (ePASS) developed by the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) has won a FutureGov Award 2013, an information technology award for the public sector in the Asia-Pacific region.
The ePASS, which facilitates efficient, accurate and paperless processing of Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) transfers among MPF trustees, won the award in the Government Cloud category, one of the 21 FutureGov Awards this year.
Mr Cheng Yan-chee, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of the MPFA, said, “We are very pleased to have won this award, which recognizes our excellence in deploying cloud computing technology in developing the ePASS.”
Developed by the MPFA and launched in November 2012 to complement the implementation of the Employee Choice Arrangement (ECA), the ePASS is the first centralised electronic platform adopted by the entire MPF industry to facilitate the transfer of MPF benefits among all MPF trustees. It is one of the MPFA’s recent initiatives to enhance the use of electronic processing to further boost the operational efficiency of the MPF System.
Mr Cheng added, “The ePASS has contributed to cutting the average processing time, which now stands at three to four weeks, compared to the original estimate of six to eight weeks. Since its launch last November, it has helped process more than half a million different types of MPF transfers in a speedy, accurate and environmentally friendly manner.”
“The project owes its success to the concerted effort and hard work of various work units of the MPFA, as well as the trustees. The award is a celebration of the success of collaboration and teamwork,” he said.
Mr Cheng said, “The MPFA will continue to press ahead with a wider use of electronic platform in the operation of the MPF System. Following the launch of the ePASS, an electronic payment and settlement system for trustees is now in the pipeline and is expected to be released in mid-2014. We anticipate the system will further reduce the time required for MPF transfers by one more week, to an average two to three weeks.”
FutureGov, headquartered in Singapore, is a provider of information on services and innovation in government, education and healthcare organizations. The annual FutureGov Awards, in its seventh year in 2013, recognize innovative, new and modern technologies in delivering government and other public services in the Asia-Pacific region. This year it received a total of 650 nominations from the organizations in the region, including Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore.
