MPFA Chief Regulation and Policy Officer appointed committee chair of an international organization on private pension systems
Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) Chief Regulation and Policy Officer Darren McShane was appointed Chair of the Technical Committee of the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS) in June 2014 for a term of 2 years.
The IOPS is an independent international body representing pension fund supervisors in over 70 countries and territories worldwide. Its major goal is to improve the quality and effectiveness of the supervision of private pension systems throughout the world, thereby enhancing their development and operational efficiency and allowing for the provision of a secure source of retirement income in as many countries as possible.
Its Technical Committee has been working to develop standards for, and conduct research into, the supervision and regulation of private pension systems.
Mr McShane said, “I am honoured by the opportunity to help IOPS in its important international role and believe that the international insights gained through the exchange of views and experience with other members of IOPS will further assist the MPFA in ongoing reforms of the MPF System.”
Mr McShane will continue in his MPFA role in which he has served for over a decade, and is responsible for developing both policies and legislation for the MPF System and occupational retirement schemes in Hong Kong.
An MPFA spokesperson said the appointment reflects the high regard with which the MPF System and the MPFA are held by global peers. The MPFA will continue to review and enhance the MPF System for better retirement protection for scheme members.
