Learning about the MPF through social media where Maggiology comic videos explain the MPF
Understanding the basic concepts of Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) investment is essential to managing your MPF. The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (20 October) launched an online game on its Facebook fan page Rolling my Money (in Chinese only). Featuring the Maggiology comic series on the MPF, the game promotes messages on MPF management and investment in a light-hearted and interesting manner through the popular social media.
In 2011, the MPFA started to work with popular cartoonist Maggiology to develop comic strips (in Chinese only) on the MPF.
The comic strips have now been transformed into comic videos, which give tips on managing MPF investments. Starting from today, members of the public can watch them on the MPFA’s Facebook fan page Rolling My Money. They will receive a souvenir if they provide the correct answer to a question after watching one of the videos. They will also have a chance to win an autographed copy of a recently published Maggiology comic book and a gift for voting for their favourite video. The online game starts today and ends on 9 November.
The Maggiology comic strips on the MPF consist of four series. They explain the factors to consider when making an MPF investment decision, illustrate how MPF funds operate, introduce useful tools for managing your MPF, and also remind scheme members to manage their MPF investment proactively. The comic strips make use of daily life examples to explain MPF messages, such as “don’t blindly follow others when picking an MPF fund”, “the earlier you start planning for your retirement, the better”, and “MPF funds are traded in ‘forward pricing’”.
The comic strips and the videos are available on both the Facebook fan page and the MPF investment education thematic website Making Informed Decisions for your MPF Life.
The MPFA attaches great importance to investor education. Messages on the MPF System and MPF investment are disseminated to scheme members through multiple channels. In 2011, the MPFA launched a Facebook fan page, making good use of this social media channel to educate the public, in particular the young working population, on wealth management and the MPF. In addition, in 2012, the MPFA launched a mobile phone application, MVP@Workplace, which introduces the MPF and offers tips to job seekers.
