Average MPF assets per member almost triple in less than a decade
Launched in December 2000, the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) System is now in its 15th year of operation. The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (23 December) published the latest issue of the MPFA Newsletter, which reveals some interesting figures on the MPF System.
This issue's cover story, titled "MPF Assets Grow Cumulatively", shows that according to figures provided by MPF trustees, at the end of 2013, the 3.9 million MPF scheme members had MPF assets of $132,000 on average – almost triple the average of $45,000 in 2004 – and that the average MPF assets of male members were $145,000, about 20% higher than those of female members. The story also analyses the average MPF assets held by scheme members of different age groups. Readers can read the full story for more information in the latest MPFA Newsletter, now available on the MPFA website.
Also in the latest issue, making their first appearance are the four "MPF Heroes" – created by the MPFA for its upcoming public education programmes. The four "MPF Heroes" will appear soon in the MPFA's short videos and print advertisements in different media to deliver information about MPF account management.
The latest issue also introduces the MPFA's new online calculator for retirement planning, as well as additional information provided by the MPFA's Trustee Service Comparative Platform. Scheme members are encouraged to make good use of these online tools to actively manage their MPF accounts.
Published once every quarter, the MPFA Newsletter provides updates on the MPF System and the MPFA, and offers tips for scheme members on how to manage their MPF. All issues of the MPFA Newsletter are available on the MPFA website.
