MPFA Chairman listens to concerns of grassroots women (29 September 2021)
MPFA Chairman Mrs Ayesha Lau, Acting Managing Director Mr Cheng Yan-chee and MPFA colleagues today met with representatives of the Society for Community Organization (SoCO) and grassroots women to listen to their concerns on employment and retirement protection. Mrs Lau took the opportunity to remind them to protect their MPF rights and save for retirement. Meanwhile, MPFA and SoCO co-organized an interactive activity for grassroots women to gain a better understanding of MPF in a fun-filled way.
Many grassroots women choose to work as part-timer to alleviate financial burden of their families. However, some of them may misunderstand that part-time workers are not covered by the MPF System. In fact, employees who are employed for a period of not less than 60 days irrespective of whether they are employed full-time or part-time, their employer must enrol them in an MPF scheme and make contributions.
Mrs Lau advised participating housewives who might join the workforce in the future to get familiar with the MPF System as they would benefit from the MPF System by gradually building up their retirement savings through regular contribution. Mrs Lau also encouraged them to disseminate MPF messages to their working family members and friends, so as to protect their MPF rights from exploitation.
