MPFA Chairman meets with catering industry union and workers (3 Oct 2022)
MPFA Chairman Mrs Ayesha Macpherson Lau, MPFA Acting Chief Operating Officer Cynthia Hui, and MPFA colleagues today (3 October) met with representatives of the Eating Establishment Employees General Union (EEEGU), the Rights and Benefits Committee of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (FTU) and catering workers, to exchange views on protecting scheme members’ interests and other enforcement issues. MPFA and EEEGU also joined hands to visit restaurants in a shopping mall in Mongkok district to distribute educational leaflets and souvenirs to restaurant workers.
Mrs Lau said that the catering business had suffered heavily under the pandemic, causing a wave of restaurant closures. MPFA placed scheme members’ interests first and offered assistance to the affected workers proactively, and MPFA would continue to work closely with the EEEGU to help affected employees, Mrs Lau added.
