MPFA Chairman presents the MPFA’s 2025-26 budget and the latest developments of the eMPF at the Legislative Council (14 March 2025)
MPFA Chairman Mrs Ayesha Macpherson Lau provided updates on the Authority’s 2025-26 budget and the latest developments of the eMPF Platform (eMPF) at the meeting of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Financial Affairs. The MPFA would reduce its proposed budget on total expenditure by 2% for the 2025-26 financial year compared to the current year. This echos the Government's reinforcement of the fiscal consolidation programme, as outlined in the 2025-26 Budget. Mrs Lau envisaged that the MPFA would leverage AI technology and streamline procedures to handle the increased workload, and would strive to do more and better with the same or even less resources.
Mrs. Lau noted that the overall operation of the eMPF had been smooth, and various improvement measures had also been introduced. The MPFA will continue to closely supervise the contractor in its work and arrange the successful onboarding of the remaining trustees to the Platform by the end of 2025.
Other key work priorities of the MPFA include formulating the proposed details of MPF “Full Portability” and consulting the public, expanding the investment products for MPF, conducting a comprehensive review of the default investment strategy (DIS) for its enhancement, requiring the industry to further reduce fees and ensure value for money of MPF, and continuing to help the working population in recovering default contributions of MPF.
