MPFA Chairman gives a live interview on RTHK Radio 3’s “Money Talk” (15 July 2021)
MPFA Chairman Mrs Ayesha Macpherson Lau gave a live interview 15 July on RTHK Radio 3’s “Money Talk”, sharing the latest performance figures of the MPF System.
She said the total assets of the MPF have grown to over $1.2 trillion and the net annualized return since inception was 5.1% as at the end of May 2021. She cited a recent report published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the MPF System recorded a 12.4% of real investment rate of return in 2020, ranking first among 48 jurisdictions. This remarkable outcome suggested that the MPF System is a reliable pension fund in Hong Kong.
Mrs Lau also mentioned that there are different MPF funds with unique investment objectives available for scheme members’ selection. Members should select MPF investment portfolio according to their stage of life and risk tolerance level. Scheme members, who are unfamiliar with investing or too busy to manage their MPF, should consider the Default Investment Strategy (DIS).
Mrs Lau said in the interview that the Authority is dedicated to helping scheme members make decision for MPF investment through sharing the latest MPF information and providing various management tools on different public education platforms.
She encouraged scheme members to make voluntary contributions, such as Tax Deductible Voluntary Contributions (TVC), to increase retirement assets for additional protection.
Mrs Lau also introduced the latest development progress of the eMPF Platform. The Government gazetted the second-stage amendment bill for the eMPF Platform and submitted the bill to the Legislative Council to facilitate its future development and implementation.
