Over 2,100 organizations receive the Good MPF Employer Award 2022-23, a record high for 9 consecutive years
The MPFA organized the Good MPF Employer Award (GMEA) 2022-23 Presentation Ceremony in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre today (4 October). On its 9th anniversary, this year’s GMEA adopted the theme “Let’s join hands for a better future!”, recognizing employers that are exemplary in enhancing and protecting the retirement benefits of their employees. The ceremony was officiated by Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare Mr Ho Kai-ming, Commissioner for Labour Ms May Chan, MPFA Chairman Mrs Ayesha Macpherson Lau, and Managing Director Mr Cheng Yan-chee.
This year, a total of 2,134 companies and organizations received the award, an increase of 12% from last year, breaking the record for 9 consecutive years. Among them, 15%, or 326 companies and organizations, were first-time participants. 55 employers received the “Best All-round MPF Employer”1 award, up by 25% from last year, which also broke the record.
Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare Mr Ho Kai-ming extended his heartfelt congratulations to all award winners in his speech, commending them for providing their staff with good working environment, fair remuneration packages and comprehensive welfare benefits, as well as professional training and development opportunities for employees with a view to continuously strengthening their skills and knowledge. Mr Ho encouraged more employers to practice family-friendly policies to help employees in balancing their work and family responsibilities. He also hoped the awardees could serve as role models for other enterprises in further promoting employee benefits and the development of corporate social responsibilities.
In her welcome remarks, MPFA Chairman Mrs Ayesha Macpherson Lau said, “Despite that the period was still under the pandemic, this year’s GMEA still received a record breaking number of employers being commended. This reflected that many employers still persistently pursue to enhance their employees’ retirement protection through MPF, regardless of the challenging environment. By providing multiple MPF schemes for employees’ selection and making voluntary contributions, these employers exemplified the theme of this year’s award ‘Let’s join hands for a better future’.”
Mrs Lau also mentioned that the eMPF Platform, which will be launched in the second quarter of 2024, will save time and increase efficiency for employers in managing their employee’s MPF. She reminded employers to stay tuned for the launch date and embrace the brand-new experience of digitization in managing the MPF with their employees.
A sharing session under the theme of “Return to Normalcy – Opportunities and Challenges”, hosted by MPFA Managing Director Mr Cheng Yan-chee was held at the ceremony. The guest speakers, including Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce Mr Patrick Yeung, President of the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong Dr Allen Shi, Chairman of the Employer’s Federation of Hong Kong Mr Wilson Kwong, Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of LH Group Limited Mr Simon Wong, and Ms Katy Kung, artiste, restaurant partner, and founder of a cake shop. Speakers shared their views and experiences about the opportunities and challenges they have encountered in the post-pandemic business environment, as well as their strategies in attracting talents.
Since the launch of this annual programme in 2015, nearly 3,100 employers have been awarded under the GMEA. To receive the “Good MPF Employer Award”, employers must have participated in an MPF scheme for at least one year and complied with MPF regulations, and provided extra retirement benefits for their employees. Starting this year, MPFA intermediaries could also nominate their eligible employer to become a Good MPF Employer. 98 nominations from intermediaries were received this year, and nearly 30%, or 29 companies and organizations, were first-time participants.
The full list of Good MPF Employers 2022-23 is available on the GMEA website.
